Chromosome Viewer
http://www.ornl.gov/sci/t echresources/Human_Genome /posters/chromosome/choos er.shtml
|
This is an invaluable resource which allows the user to view the human chromosomes and find out which genes have been found on each one. The user simply clicks on a chromosome for more detail and then clicks on a region of the chromosome for further detail. The information is also available as a poster. The chromosomes are colour-coded according to the banding seen under a microscope and the staining intensity. The centromeres and stalks are also colour coded. The images are accompanied by a Gene Gateway which has tutorials and guides to enable novices to find further information on the internet relating to the human genome project. It must be noted that this information is for educational use and should not be used for medical purposes.

The Virtual Transgenic Fly Lab
http://www.biointeractive .org/
|
This is an excellent site providing information on how transgenic flies are created. Once you have entered the lab you can create a transgenic fly and use it to study circadium rhythms as an example of the use of transgenic organisms in research. This is a useful resource for education of genes and how they effect behaviour.
